ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE  REPORTS:

Treasurer:  Val circulated three separate reports; a financial statement as at March 31, 2002, Profit and loss by class April 1 through August 29, 2002, and Budget 2002-2003.  Val reported that this is the first financial report that has been ready for the AGM in 5 years.  She is using a new program that breaks down all cost groups rather than using broad titles.  Usually the statement has just shown lump sums, now it will show a breakdown.  She also discussed the appointment of an auditor.  He suggested continuing with Kemp Harvey Burch Corp.  She said the auditor was very thorough.

MOVED/ SECONDED…CARRIED                   Canham/Beattie

“That the financial statements be approved.”

MOVED/SECONDED…CARRIED                    Canham/M.Ostermeier

“That the BCAA appoint Kemp Harvey Bruch Corp. as the auditor.

Technical VP: Al Beattie reported that he is working with Vladimir Kopecky to get more coaching clinics.  He said that there are requests for coaches and that he wants to update the databases for active and inactive judges and coaches.  Also all coaching hours are now to be sent to Al.  On the topic of judging, Al reported that there are many club level judges and a few provincial level judges.  Al is trying to find out who sanctions judges.

Zone 1: Vladimir said that nothing is happening in his zone.  Since the adults were removed from the Summer Games, there is not much interest.

Zone 6: Greg added to his report that Victoria has been chosen to host the Canadian Championships in August of 2003.  He also mentioned that Victoria shooters are now allowed back on the field.  He stated that Parksville also has a vibrant indoor club.

FCA Rep: Greg reported that there will be a President’s conference in November.  There have been changes to the rules, but the indoor rules are still under discussion.  He commented on the changes for the 18m FITA round will help to involve more shooters and make it more shooter friendly.  He also talked about the coaching model and how it is now more competency based.  The changes will take place gradually over the next 3-5 years and will allow for different kinds of coaches for different kinds of archers.  There will be no steps program, rather a specific area of expertise where you continue to develop as the kind of coach you want to be.

BC Summer Games Provincial Advisor: Susan commented that Nanaimo did a great job hosting and that everything ran fairly smoothly with positive feedback from many.  Susan announced that the 2004 Summer Games will be held in Abbotsford and that Fraser Valley archers has put in a request to host the archery. She confirmed that at the next games there will only be a 14-15 year old age group.

Membership Secretary: All fees are to go to Mary and cards will be sent by her to the individuals.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:

1.        Alan Jay requested that all reports be sent to the BC Archer editor from the AGM for publishing in the BC Archer magazine.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.        Discussion of the 3D shooting classes:

Mary Ostermeier opened the discussion by saying that there were far too many classes at the 3D championships in Quesnel this year.  There were 26 classes with many shooting in the wrong classes.  Chuck Land said it was the opinion at his store that many individuals would love to shot the BC Championships and that they don’t care about the medals, but they would like to attend.  Many don’t want to be BCAA members; they are here for the sport only.  Discussion rose as to why you needed to be a member of the BCAA and the answer given was that the BC Championships are a BCAA sanctioned shoot, not a club shoot.  This leads to liability issues.  Alan Jay suggested that the problem is in not offering services to 3D shooters.  He said that we need steps and incentives to show them the organization is worth joining.  Val added that Rock Creek had the Championships for two years and last year they held info sessions, coaching technique sessions, clinics, etc. as ways to gain their interest.  It was well received at Rock Creek. – end of discussion
